Dear AIDS-Asia Members
The 2012 IAS-NIDA fellowship programme<http://www.iasociety.org/iasnida.aspx>will be open from
*8 December 2011 to 10 February 2012*.
This fellowship programme was established by the International AIDS Society (IAS) with the support of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The goal of this fellowship programme is to contribute to advances in the scientific understanding of drug use and HIV while fostering multinational research.
This fellowship programme consists of two types of awards for training:
US$75,000 to be awarded to a junior scientist for 18-months post-doctoral training and US$75,000 to be awarded to a well-established HIV researcher for eight-month long professional development training.
Applications from a wide range of disciplines including social, behavioral, political, clinical, biomedical, mathematicalsciences or others will be accepted.
All fellows are required to choose a mentor at an institution different from their current institution. The mentor must hold an established post for the duration of the fellowship and have a track record in research and training in HIV and druguse.
To facilitate the application process and to encourage international candidates who may not have a mentor in mind, IAS and NIDA are providing a list of potential mentors and a description of
their research interests.
This list is intended to help prospective fellows choose a mentor in their field of interest, but fellows are not required to
choose a mentor from this list. After identifying a potential mentor,
prospective fellows should contact the mentor to discuss the possibility of working on a specific research project.
Fellows will be selected by mid-April 2012, and they and their mentors will be invitedto the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS
2012<http://www.aids2012.org/>
in Washington D.C. 22-27 July 2012.
The fellowshipswill be officially awarded at the conference, and there will be additional activities planned for fellows at the conference.
The IAS-NIDA fellowship programme has been ongoing since 2009 and a total of ten fellowships have been awarded. The programme initially awarded two fellowships, but subsequently, has been increased to four fellowships per year.
In an effort to broaden the reach of this fellowship program, both
scientifically and geographically, we are asking for your assistance in circulating this information to your networks. With your help,we can reach a maximum number of scientists and advance the scientific understanding of drug use and HIV.
We would like to request your help in the following ways:*
Please disseminate this message and the attached documents within your
professional networks.
Please inform eligible candidates of the IAS-NIDA fellowship programme.
Please advise us of specific science networks we should be aware of in marketing this fellowship programme.
