Dear China Aids Group, Greetings from snowy Michigan, USA. I have been on this listserve for years given interests in addressing HIV/AIDS in China. (I am a university professor with training in medical ethics and public health.) I appreciate the list-serve greatly despite my inability to read Chinese adequately for the Chinese postings. I do speak very rough conversational Mandarin Chinese, the legacy of some years working in Taiwan and subsequent study. I am the single mother of a wondrous Chinese-American ten-year-old adopted as an infant in Jiangxi Province. We are considering adopting an older child (6-9 years old) and have an approved home study in the U.S. Does anyone know if it is possible to adopt AIDS orphans in any location in China? We would be very interested if so, and would make commitments to keep the child in contact with extended family/village. I regret that since I am my family's sole wage-earner, I do not feel able to to volunteer to adopt an HIV+ child. But we would gladly consider adopting a child whose orphan status has resulted from HIV in China. If anyone has relevant information about whether/how this may be possible, please feel free to share!
