Call for Immediate Release of Tian Xi
Chinese government should compensate thousands infected with HIV through contaminated national blood supply

Chinese AIDS activist Tian Xi has been detained for his ongoing campaign to petition officials to compensate him and tens of thousands of others infected with HIV through contaminated national blood supply. He has been in detention in Henan Province without a formal sentence since August 6, 2010.
While many countries have experienced similar outbreaks of HIV in the blood supply early in the epidemic, China is the only country to refuse to establish a national program for compensation of these victims – many of whom, like Tian Xi, contracted HIV through hospital blood transfusions.
What you can do
Please show your support for Tian Xi and the cause for which he was imprisoned:
- Include Tian Xi's photo in your World AIDS Day activities. Hold a moment of silence for him; light a candle for the thousands of rural people and their families devastated by HIV transmission in China's blood supply. Post photographs of your action online. Just 5 minutes can help.
- Share your photos and statements at http://www.chinaaids.wordpress.com, or email us at china.aids.solidarity@gmail.com and we'll post it for you.
- Write to the UN and international donors to raise his case with the Chinese government, and to demand compensation for ALL the victims of the contaminated blood supply. Use the letter below, based on one sent by Treatment Action Campaign in South Africa, or write your own. Send the letter to the media and post it online.
- Spread the word. Pass this on to other groups. Share Tian Xi's story and the Chinese blood disaster with other networks and organizations.
